Southampton Airport

Southampton Airport is an airport located in Eastleigh, close to Southampton, in southern England. In 2007, the airport was transited by 1,965,686 passengers, and has just the one runway.

Said to have been built on the ruins of a Roman villa, Southampton Airport first opened its doors to commercial aviation in 1932, and flights have continued since then.

Transport Links to Southampton

Southampton Airport has a rail-link to Southampton through the Southampton Airport (Parkway) station, with a trip to Southampton Central taking around eight minutes. The U1C, 14 and 14A bus services run regularly from the airport to the city centre. By road, the airport is located near to the junction of the M3 and M27 motorways, which link it to Southampton. Of course, taxis are in ready supply outside the terminal building.

There are no actual facilities at the airport, but very close-by is the Regus Conference centre, which does have these facilities. Also, hotels such as the Best Western Botleigh Grange Hotel in particular, offer large and state-of-the-art facilities relatively nearby.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Amsterdam airport is Holland’s primary airport. It is located outside of Amsterdam, in the polder municipality of Haarlemmermeer. The airport is a major aviation centre for Europe, and is the fifth busiest in Europe. The area itself was first used as a military airbase in 1916, but commercial aircraft began using the airfield from around 1920, and Amsterdam has been regularly voted the best airport in the world. Future plans are in place, including the provision for a new runway, further increasing the amount of flights Schiphol can handle.

Transport Links to Amsterdam

Taxis are readily available outside the terminals, and can be booked from Schiphol Transfer Assistance area of the airport. By train, the Schiphol train station is in the airport, and it is a short 15 minute journey to Amsterdam, and other trips to other parts of Holland leave from there also. There are also a large number of buses running to various areas of Amsterdam, but service number 370 takes passengers direct to the city centre. Finally, you can get to and from Schiphol by bicycle, on the specialist cycle paths.
