Southampton Airport
In its early days the facilities that were eventually to become Southampton Airport were used as an air base by the US Navy. By the 1930s the classic Spitfire K5054, which played a key role in the Battle of Britain, was being tested here. Southampton has now grown into a modern airport and since a £27m revamp in the early 1990s, has gone on to handle 1 million passengers a year.

If you don’t mind parking a little further away, the Stoneham Park car park is more competitively priced and free transfers by shuttle bus to the terminal building operate around the clock.

The airport is located less than five miles to the north of Southampton City Centre, close to where the M3 meets the M27. The airport is therefore well connected with the surrounding towns of Winchester, 12 miles to the north, and is 24 miles from Salisbury. The edge of the New Forest is just 12 miles to the west.

Flights from Southampton are supported by excellent road and rail connections to and from the surrounding areas. Two local bus services run to and from the city centre regularly throughout the day, but the on-site railway station here means that passengers can reach the terminal from Southampton in less than ten minutes, or from Central London in just over an hour.

Taxi operators from Alicante Airport will charge around 20 euros for the 20 minute journey into the city centre. If you wish to pay a lot less for a slightly longer journey, the airport bus can be taken from the number 30 bus-stop which can be found over to the left as you emerge from the Arrivals Hall.

Alicante is largely an airport driven by tourism but business passengers can find fax, phone and photocopying facilities as well as internet access on the first floor within the Ifach VIP lounge. If a large venue is required, the nearby Holiday Inn Alicante Playa de San Juan has conference facilities able to cater for large numbers of delegates.

Alicante is a friendly city with a true Mediterranean feel, with its historic castle, attractive seafront boulevards, excellent shopping and a wide choice of restaurants and bars.
