Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is the largest airport not serving London in the UK and is also the fourth-busiest in the UK. It began life as Ringway Airport in 1938, saw use in World War II and this year won Travel Weekly Globe’s UK Best Airport award. There are major redevelopment plans afoot at Manchester, including taxiway overhauls, the extension of terminal 3 and a dedicated lounge and gate area for Airbus A380 flights.

Parking

There is both short and long-term parking at Manchester Airport. Long-term parking is through car parks dedicated to terminals with a short shuttle ride connecting the two. It costs £50 for a week and then £7.00 for every extra day thereafter. The car parks are part of the Park Mark safety scheme.

Airport distance and surrounding location

The whole airport, apart from the second runway which resides in neighbouring Cheshire, is contained within the city of Manchester’s boundaries. The city centre is approximately 9 miles away from the airport.

Transport Links to Manchester

The airport is situated off junction five of the M56 motorway, and a journey to the city centre would take around 20 minutes. Up to six trains an hour run from The Station, Manchester Airport’s transport hub, to Manchester Piccadilly, from where you can pick up services to all over the UK. There are taxi ranks outside of all the terminals and the Stagecoach Skyline buses, numbers 43 and 105, connect to the city centre.

Manchester Airport contains both business and executive lounges. Also, accessible through a covered walkway, is the 5-star Radisson SAS hotel, which offers state-of-the-art conference facilities. Conference utilities are also available in the airport itself.

Inverness Airport

Inverness Airport is an international airport located in the Scottish Highlands region of Scotland. The airport serves as the principal gateway to the north of Scotland, with 703,408 passengers passing through in 2007. After use in the Second World War, Inverness airport opened for commercial aviation in 1947, and today the biggest user is Flybe, who operate daily flights to Gatwick, among others.

There is both short and long term parking facilities at Inverness Airport, with cars parked in the Long Stay Car Park for less than 72 hours paying a standard rate of £8.80 per day, whereas cars parked for more than three days will pay a reduced rate of £4.90 per day after this. The long-term parking is off-site, however.

Transport links to Inverness

By road, Inverness can be reached from the A96 Inverness-Aberdeen road, and taxis are readily available from the rank outside the main terminal building. The nearest train stations are at Nairn or Inverness, from which you can pick up either buses from Inverness or a taxi to complete your onward journey. The new “Jet Buses” operate a new service from Queensgate in the city Inverness Airport and vice-versa, and the bus stop is located just outside the terminal.
