Officially opened in 1938, Exeter Airport had an 870-yard runway, single-storey terminal building and one 90-feet wide hangar. Improvements were undertaken and scheduled flights from Exeter gradually developed as airlines came to appreciate the high-level facilities. MANCHESTER AIRPORT
In the 1960s, the Manchester runway was lengthened and an imposing terminal building, with air traffic control facilities, and two passenger piers, added. This heralded two decades of escalating flights to Manchester and a third pier, new departure hall and longer runway were added. The airport began handling direct long-haul international flights to Manchester. A second international passenger terminal and direct rail and motorway links made the airport increasingly accessible. Approval for a second runway has further enhanced the airport’s potential. Flights to Manchester are expected to increase substantially, with it becoming the UK’s second busiest airport in the next 15 years.

Short stay parking is provided in multi-storey car parks next to each terminal, meaning a short, covered walk to check-in. All pick-ups from flights to Manchester must take place in the short stay car parks.

Each car park is conveniently located within a ½ mile of the terminals and serviced by 24-hour courtesy bus, every 15 minutes.

MANCHESTER PROFILE
The “Capital of the North” has overcome industrial decline to become a confident, cosmopolitan city. Attractions include the Lowry art complex and Canal Street gay village. The Lowry opened in 2000 rapidly establishing itself as a great attraction. On the waterfront of Salford Quays, it is well-connected to Manchester City Centre by Metrolink. It comprises three theatres, an art gallery, bars and restaurants, but still has a light, airy feel. The Lowry is a destination in itself, but visitors have the benefit of its proximity to the Imperial War Museum North, across the canal. An adjacent shopping mall with restaurants and bars is within walking distance of the Manchester United Football Stadium. Centred on the Canal street area is a thriving gay scene, which offers bars, clubs, restaurants and other venues to explore.
