Edinburgh Airport
Edinburgh Airport, located within the city of Edinburgh in Scotland, was first constructed in 1915 in order to house the City of Edinburgh Squadron and its light bomber aircrafts. Today, Edinburgh Airport handles over 9 million passengers each year making it Scotland’s busiest airport and Britain’s seventh most used. It is currently owned and operated by BAA who also run six other British airports. BAA hope to expand the airport further in the near future.

There are three choices of parking facilities on offer: long stay, short stay and valet parking. The 2 long-stay car parks both offer courtesy regular shuttle services to the terminal, which takes roughly 5 minutes. Edinburgh Airport’s short stay car park is located close to the terminal which is a short walk away. Valet parking offers the most convenient service as the customer’s car is picked up from the terminal forecourt and returned when requested.

Edinburgh Airport is situated about 8 miles west of the city of Edinburgh. It is also located approximately 5 miles south of the town of Queensferry from which ferries run to islands within the Firth of Forth area.

The airport is easily accessed by road and lies off the two-level junction on the A8 between the Newbridge and Gogar roundabouts. The route is clearly signposted as you get closer. Public busses stop outside the terminal building and run regularly to Edinburgh city. Edinburgh also provides a mini-coach shuttle service that picks up flyers from any Edinburgh location. Waverly, Edinburgh’s main train station, and Edinburgh Haymarket station are both accessible from the airport via busses or taxis, and connect to destinations around the UK.

The Servisair and BA executive lounges are located in the departures hall. The Servisair lounge is for fee-paying customers, and the BA lounge is BA club card holders. Wireless internet is available throughout the airport. There are no meeting rooms within the airport itself, but the Hilton Edinburgh Airport Hotel provides conference facilities that can contain up to 220 people.

In 2007, the airport, which is split into three terminals, handled over 22 million passengers and it has won several awards including the Travel Weekly Globe Awards’ UK Best Airport in 2008.

Frequent bus and coach services also run from the airport to a selection of towns and locations. Manchester Airport is a 20 minute drive from Manchester City and can be reached via junction 5 of the M56.

There are executive lounges available in the departure lounges of each terminal. These offer relaxing surroundings for certain card-holding or pre-booking customers. There are conference and business facilities in the Radisson Hotel which can be reached directly from Terminals 1 and 2. The conference area can hold up to 400 people and offers a range of state-of-the-art technology and services.
