LOGANAIR announced plans to operate extra flights to Shetland this summer in a major boost for the islands’ tourism sector.
The airline, which flies to and from Shetland under a franchise agreement with Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has added 60 flights between Sumburgh and Aberdeen to its summer timetable.
The additional services will operate between 17 June and 22 August, covering the school holidays and the Tall Ships Race, which has already led to a surge in bookings.Loganair has also announced four extra flights between Edinburgh and Shetland in late July to meet Tall Ships demand.

Unless we are travelling with hand luggage only the first consideration a newly arrived traveller at an a airport has to deal with is collecting your baggage.
We all worry about our baggage, has it arrived? Has it been lost? In the many years that i have been flying i have only had to contend with 1 instance of lost baggage that being on a flight from Paris to San Francisco.
But what happens to your baggage when you hand it over at the check-in desk?

Your bag will move from belt to belt, passing through a scanner which can detect a range of suspect and unwanted materials. The imaging of many bags will show nothing untoward and they will continue to travel through the channels of belt.
If the scanner sniffs certain substances it can automatically raise the alarm without further human intervention. Silent alarms go off, commandos descend on ropes from the ceiling, and miniature robotic helicopters hover around your suspect bag and use high powered lasers to neutralise the threat inside. (Disclaimer – I may have made that last sentence up.)
My suitcase with its 4-way coiled extension lead, spare laptop batteries, network cables and phone chargers may be flagged for closer inspection. Images of bags whose contents warrant human eyes to check the X-ray image (and verify what’s inside) are beamed to security staff downstairs.

Despite the difficult economic climate the Cruise Company MSC Cruises are reporting a large increase in bookings from its Southampton base.
MSC which are an American operator offer a huge range of cruise destinations from Southampton; including Cruises to the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, The Caribbean, the USA and South Africa. MSC operate 10 Ships in total with regular departures from April 2011.
