Latest News No Comments »

Southampton Airport is located almost at the junction of the M3 and M27 motorways, as such many passengers use car transport to travel to the airport. Passengers bound for the airport via local motorways should exit at Junction 5 of the M27 where prominent signage will guide you to the airport terminal. For local passengers from Southampton itself then the A335 is just 4 miles to the airport.

Passengers can be dropped off outside of the terminal building, however if you are picking up then you must park in the Short Stay car park as there no waiting of vehicles permitted outside of the terminal building.

For full details on parking at the airport an excellent guide is outlined below, the full article can be found at Southampton-airport-parking blog:

Southampton Airport Parking is conveniently located right next to the terminal building and allows quick and easy access to check in desks.

Secure Long Stay and Short Stay car parks offer CCTV coverage and regular security patrols so your vehicle is kept safe. Southampton also employs and online booking service so all parking orders can be managed, amended or even cancelled online.

As a holder of the ‘Secured Car Park’ award you can rest assured that whilst away your vehicle will be secure. As all parking is within walking distance of the terminal you do not have to worry about carrying luggage long distances.

Worldwide connections from Flybe

Latest News No Comments »

With the advent of Flybe Connections, passengers with the airline were able to easily travel to many of the 70 plus destinations that are a part of the Flybe Network throughout the UK and Western Europe.
Now Flybe passengers will have the opportunity to much further afield by booking tickets though Flybe’s Interline partners. At present the new option is only available through travel agents and not online.
For Scottish passengers from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen the choices are huge.

Flybe has the lowdown on their partners and what it means for passengers.
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline and the UK’s Number One domestic carrier, offers an affordable galaxy of connections worldwide from Scotland through its extensive regional network and, with 22 interline partners that include Continental, Etihad, Qatar, Singapore, Swiss and Virgin, some of the world’s most popular destinations are also conveniently accessible. This is not only good news for those travelling far and wide from Glasgow where direct connections from Heathrow are no longer being offered by Bmi after March 27th, but also for those flying from Aberdeen and Edinburgh who may not have considered using alternative airports.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer comments: “We’ve noted the reported concerns of Glasgow travellers recently that the cost of interlining could increase following the withdrawal of Bmi’s London Heathrow service. We can reassure them that, with Flybe, there are other highly attractive and affordable options for flying to the US, Asia and Australasia other than just transiting Heathrow Airport,

“Flybe offers a choice of 51 Flybe routes from Glasgow alone! Thirty three of these are seamless connections offered via our hubs in Birmingham, Manchester and Southampton so there are lots of opportunities to connect to international destinations, giving the added value of receiving all necessary boarding cards and only having to check in your luggage at the original departure airport.”

Some key interline options from Glasgow available with our partners include:

Las Vegas and Orlando with Virgin Atlantic
Abu Dhabi and beyond to Asia and Australasia with Etihad
Singapore and the Far East with Singapore Airlines

Lyons with Air France
New York with Continental
Zurich with Swiss
Through tickets for Flybe connections can be booked online or via travel agents however through tickets for onward connections with Flybe’s interline partners must be booked with a travel agent. Hold baggage will be checked through to the passenger’s final destination and the baggage allowances of the international carrier apply across all sectors.

Baggage handling at Belfast City airport.

Latest News No Comments »

With Flybe running their “just pay the taxes and charges” sale on domestic flights to and from Belfast City Airport, i thought i would point new and occasional visitors to some worthwhile online resources about Belfast. Unless we are travelling with hand luggage only the first consideration a newly arrived traveller at an a airport has to deal with is collecting your baggage.

We all worry about our baggage, has it arrived? Has it been lost? In the many years that i have been flying i have only had to contend with 1 instance of lost baggage that being on a flight from Paris to San Francisco.

But what happens to your baggage when you hand it over at the check-in desk?

Well Alan in Belfast offers a fascinating insight into journey of your personal belongings.
Here is a snippet from his post:

Your bag will move from belt to belt, passing through a scanner which can detect a range of suspect and unwanted materials. The imaging of many bags will show nothing untoward and they will continue to travel through the channels of belt.
If the scanner sniffs certain substances it can automatically raise the alarm without further human intervention. Silent alarms go off, commandos descend on ropes from the ceiling, and miniature robotic helicopters hover around your suspect bag and use high powered lasers to neutralise the threat inside. (Disclaimer – I may have made that last sentence up.)
My suitcase with its 4-way coiled extension lead, spare laptop batteries, network cables and phone chargers may be flagged for closer inspection. Images of bags whose contents warrant human eyes to check the X-ray image (and verify what’s inside) are beamed to security staff downstairs.

Alan is a prolific Blog writer on all things Belfast and if you are looking to see what’s happening in the life and times of this fabulous city, i would recommend his blog whether you are a resident or a visitor to the city. The Blog will give you a different and interesting perspective in contrast to your run of the mill “What’s on In Belfast” guide.

Flybe – Getting you there on time

Latest News No Comments »

The latest statistics published by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA ) report that for the second year in succession Flybe are the top performing industry supplier for punctuality with an industry leading figure of 81%. Flybe are the leading domestic airline in the United Kingdom as well as being Europe’s largest regional airline. For time pressed business travellers who have to get to their destination on time then Flybe are the airline of choice. The airline currently offers cheap flights from 38 airports throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland; as well as flights from the Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey). Major Flybe hubs include Birmingham, Belfast, Manchester, Edinburgh and Southampton.

The statistics feature in the recently published Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) 2010 On-Time Performance Report that analyses airline performance from arrival and departure data provided by 10 UK reporting airports.
A total of 95 airlines featured in the Report, ten of which operated over 25,000 flights in their reported sample. Of these, Flybe came out tops for on-time performance ranking ahead of Ryanair, bmi baby and easyJet with an average delay over the 12 month period of 13.3 minutes, compared against the named carriers’ 13.7, 18.0 and 24.9 minute delays respectively.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer, comments: “Such official recognition for our on-time performance record for the second year in succession is an achievement of which we are extremely proud. Whilst assuring safety as a priority and with so many external variables affecting on-time performance over which we often have no control, there is always room for improvement but Flybe takes its commitment for providing above average service for its passengers extremely seriously. Having such an established good record for departing and arriving within the accepted 15-minute window is naturally one of the main considerations for people when deciding to which airline they will take their business.”
