Birmingham Airport
Birmingham International Airport is a large airport located in the borough of Solihull, in the West Midlands. It is the sixth busiest airport in the UK and the second busiest not serving London after Manchester International Airport. Although in use from around 1939, it passed into the control of the West Midland County Council in 1960 and has expanded ever since, being privatised in 1983 and being voted the best airport in Europe in the 5-10 million passenger category in 2007. There are future plans for runways and to enable the airport to handle the new larger, fuel-efficient jets that will come into service.
Parking
There is a large NCP-run car park at Birmingham, which offers parking for as little as £2.99 a day. Furthermore, the company encourages early booking as early bookings can guarantee much cheaper rates. Off-site, AHP runs a car park which is located only ten minutes from the airport and has regular transfers. It also holds an ACPO award for security.
Distance and Surrounding Area
Birmingham Airport is situated approximately 8 miles east of Birmingham city centre. Birmingham’s central location means there are excellent transport links to large motorways and to the big railway station at Birmingham New Street.
Transport Links to Birmingham
There should be no shortage of taxis to Birmingham city centre from outside the terminal, and a trip to the city centre should cost approximately £16. Frequent trains to the city centre run from Birmingham International Station and the journey takes between 10 and 20 minutes. If you prefer the bus, they stop at the terminus opposite Terminal 2 and the 58 and 900 services run into the city centre.
Conference and Business Facilities at Birmingham Airport
Whilst there are no specific conference facilities at the airport itself, there are many hotels nearby that do offer these facilities. There are however four business lounges, two in Terminal 1 and two in Terminal 2. There is also on-site internet access.
The City of Birmingham
Birmingham is often considered the second city of England and has a population of approximately 1,006,500. Birmingham has existed since around the 6th century and forged a reputation as an industrial powerhouse during the Industrial Revolution. It is now a major site for commerce and is regarded as a favourable place to locate a business. There is much to do in Birmingham, with great shopping along New Street, in the Jewellery Quarter and at the Bullring Complex. There is also Cadbury’s World and the National Sea Life Centre and the large Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. There is also a vibrant theatre scene and two football clubs, Aston Villa FC and Birmingham City FC.
Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt am Main International Airport is located approximately 7 miles southwest of the city centre. It is by far the biggest airport in Germany in terms of passenger numbers, is the second largest in Europe and the eighth largest in the world. Operational since 1936, the airport saw military use during the Second World War and emerged as a major hub in 1972 with the opening of their new passenger terminal, now Terminal 1. Terminal 2 was opened in 1994 and the new train station was ready in 1999. The close-by Rhein-Main US air base closed in 2005 and the property passed to Frankfurt Airport. There are plans to extend with a fourth runway and a new Terminal 3.

There is an efficient parking system at Frankfurt International Airport with special options for those coming by train and to differentiate between business and holidaymaking passengers. It costs 117.50 Euros to park for a week or two, with supplemental fees for any other length of time away.

Transport Links to Frankfurt
The railway station at the airport provides direct links to Frankfurt Central and to Frankfurt city centre. By car or taxi, Frankfurt city centre is approximately a 10-15 minute ride away and a taxi should cost you around the 25 Euro mark. Bus number 61 takes passengers into Frankfurt and comes every 30 minutes, stopping outside Terminals 1 and 2.

The city of Frankfurt am Main
Frankfurt has existed since a Roman settlement around the 1st century and was extremely important in Germany’s history, being an important city in the Holy Roman Empire and being the seat of the first democratically elected German parliament in 1848.
Nowadays, the city is the fifth-largest in Germany. It is the financial and transport centre of Germany and is a financial powerhouse of mainland Europe, with the European Central Bank, the German Federal Bank, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange as well as a number of other large banks situated there. Modern architecture such as the vertiginous skyscrapers characterise the cityscape. Important places to see include Saint Bartholomeus’ Cathedral and the old Opera House and the Stadel art museum, one of the most important in Germany, is situated in Frankfurt also. The city has many football teams, including the famous Eintracht Frankfurt but also FFC and FSV.
