Birmingham Airport

Birmingham International Airport is located in the area of Solihull, just outside Birmingham. It is the sixth busiest airport in the United Kingdom. Of note is the fact that Birmingham Airport was named the best airport in Europe in the 5-10 million passenger category in 2007. Future expansion plans are in the pipeline with extra runways hoping to be added to increase the amount of flights and passengers the airport can serve.

Parking

Long-term parking at Birmingham is provided by NCP, and can cost as little as £2.99 a day. NCP actively solicits early bookings, which in turn means they can offer cheaper prices for their car park. An off-site car park administered by AHP is situated just ten minutes from the airport and also offers competitive prices.

Distance and Surrounding Area

Birmingham city centre lies approximately 8 miles west of Birmingham Airport. The city’s extremely central location gives excellent transport links to large motorways such as the M1 and M6. Also, the large Birmingham New Street train station in the centre of Birmingham has great rail links to all areas of the UK.

Transport Links to Birmingham

Frequent trains to the city centre run from Birmingham International Station with a journey time of around 20 minutes. If you prefer to travel by bus, you can catch the 58 and 900 services. They pick up at the terminus opposite Terminal 2 and run regularly into the city centre. Taxis are in abundance outside the terminals at Birmingham.

Conference and Business Facilities at Birmingham Airport

There are no conference facilities at the airport itself, however, there are many hotels nearby that offer business and conference utilities. In the two terminals there are four business lounges, and there is also widespread internet access around the airport itself.

The City of Birmingham

The city of Birmingham is often considered the “second city” of England. The city is a major centre for commerce, business and finance. There is plenty to do in Birmingham, with shopping along New Street and at the Bullring Complex. Also nearby is Cadbury’s World, an obvious mecca for chocolate lovers, and the National Sea Life Centre. Culture-wise, the large Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery has many interesting holdings. There is also a vibrant theatre scene and lovely public spaces and squares dotted around the city.

George Best Belfast City Airport

George Best Belfast City Airport is the smaller of two airports serving Belfast, in Northern Ireland. The airport handled almost 2.2 million passengers in 2007. The area of the airport was originally used as an airport by the aerospace company Shorts in 1937 and only began commercial operations in 1983. In 2006, the airport was renamed as George Best Belfast City Airport in memory of the footballer who died in 2005.

Parking

There is both short-term and long-term parking at Belfast City Airport. A shuttle bus runs from the car park to the terminal and disabled passengers can use the short term car park for long term stays to aid accessibility.

The airport is situated adjacent to the Port of Belfast, the principal maritime port in Northern Ireland. The airport itself is approximately two miles from the centre of Belfast.

Transport Links to Belfast

Belfast Airport is located on the A2 Sydenham bypass road. There is a taxi rank outside the terminal building. A shuttle bus takes passengers from the terminal to Sydenham rail halt, and it costs around £1.40 to get into Belfast Central or Victoria Street by train where you can pick up services to all over Ireland. If you would prefer to take a bus, the airport express 600 runs every twenty minutes from Sydenham halt. Also, the number 3 bus can be caught a five minute walk from the airport and runs every ten minutes into the centre of Belfast.

Conference and Business Facilities at George Best Belfast City Airport

Belfast City Airport has a special Conference Suite located within the airport, consisting of two meeting rooms and two air-conditioned conference rooms, which can seat 24 people boardroom style and has a full range of audio and visual equipment. There are also photocopying and secretarial services on-site, as well as varied catering options.
